Did you think Disney was LGBTQ friendly ? Think again they are still very homophobic!
An annual subscription for Disney + cost in UK £59.99 and are you as a member of the LGBTQ community comfortable supporting Disney’s decades of queerbaiting ? and they are laughing all the way to the bank for getting their cut of the Pink Pound with little or no effort at all ?
The latest example are Love, Victor it was scheduled to premiere on Disney+ when the new Disney streaming service was launched in the U.S – but before the launch they moved the series to their Hulu streaming service – only available in the U.S to get less outreach – instead of the series been available in all markets where Disney+ has been launched. It’s normal for the content provider to make LGBTQ content they don’t want to be successful and put it on a streaming service like Hulu that has not the same outreach as Disney+ and can say afterwards that is expensive to produce LGBTQ content because no one is watching. Love, Victor seem not be available for broadcasters or streaming services outside U.S either.
In 2021 Disney will launch an another service outside U.S called Disney Star according to Danish Digitalt.tv – Star will include content from ABC, FX, Freeform, Searchlight, 20th Century Studios, but not Hulu.
Disney needs to get out of the closet and say they are homophobic and are queerbating their own content because they think it’s ok to do so – it’s not OK – stop it – make 100 % straight content and the LGBTQ community can stop using Disney services. If Disney can’t make LGBTQ content without queerbaiting – they can just stop their homophobic behaviour as queerbaiting is.
Queerbaiting is a marketing technique for fiction and entertainment in which creators hint at, but then do not actually depict, same-sex romance or other LGBTQ representation. Wikipedia.
That’s why I’m not signing up for Disney+ anytime soon, I’m not paying for their Queerbaiting. Disney’s only language they understand are money.
I will recommend you to watch James Somerton‘s Unrequited: The History of Queerbaiting (Part 1… The First 100 Years) below – this is a series in 3 parts.
