Nail Art for pride 2021
The idea of gathering together to celebrate LGBTQ+ pride currently seems like worlds away. In July 2020, over 60 pride events were cancelled. Still, as the UK manages to conquer the curve, and hopes of ending the current crisis come closer, it is as good a time as any to plan your look for events, which will hopefully resume some time in 2021. Fashion lovers know that for an outfit to look well put together, every little detail matters – including nails. What are a few trends you can consider sporting as soon as pride events commence?
Mismatched Nails
The year 2020 saw different coloured nails hit it big, with celebrities like Dua Lipa, Miley Cyrus, and Heidi Klum all sporting the mismatched look with artistry. To ace this style, you can either go full rainbow (with each nail bearing a different hue) or make it a little more subtle, choosing different shades of the same colour for a stunning ombre effect. You can also opt for subtle, neutral shades with a pop of colour on just one or two nails. Mix up your textures too, using a matte effect on some nails, and an ultra shiny or even metallic effect on others.
Neon Brilliance
Neon is always big at pride, be it on posters, streamers, clothing or nails, owing in no small part to the uplifting effects bright hues can have on mood. The Baby Yoda boom has pushed green to the top of the colour palette, so an all-green neon look will work wonders if you opt for a Star Wars-themed ensemble. If you do opt for a neon or fluorescent look, one of many key nail art tips is to apply a full white polish under your chosen neon hue. This will make the colour ‘pop’ and with extra brightness. If you wish to add arty effects, then after applying a hardening product (such as a nail gel colour coat), dot a nail sticker or rhinestone on top of one or more nails and apply your glossy topcoat. Ensure your nails are ridge-free so that the effect is smooth and professional.
Mustard Marvellousness
Mustard will be huge throughout 2021, and best of all, if you splash out on a luxury nail polish brand for this hue, you will be able to wear it throughout the year. Opt for matte, subtle yellows that contrast well with brighter hues if you will be sporting these at pride. If you will be wearing more neutral shades, however, then shimmering or shiny mustards are ideal choices.
Multi-Sized Glitter
Glitter is a key component of every pride event, and if you prefer it on your nails rather than your face or outfit, then nails are a good place in which to shine. This year, beauty lovers will be purchasing various types of glittery polish, with tiny shimmers as well as larger glittery and even sequinned pieces vying for their attention. If you don’t normally wear glitter, but you like the idea of wearing it at pride, then buy different colours and sizes of glitter and sequin art, and simply apply them above your shiniest top coat.
Gay pride events may have been cancelled in recent months, but members of the LGBTQ+ community are hoping to attend more than one big event this year. Nails are an important component of any outfit, so make sure to plan your designs for your next event. Mismatched, neon, mustard, and glittery nails are just a few looks that are trending, so start purchasing your supplies and experimenting with different combinations so you ace it on the big day.
