GLBT Historical Society Introduces Vaccination Requirement for Entry to Museum and Archives
The policy aligns with San Francisco’s public-health directives mandating completed vaccinations for most indoor activities, which went into effect the same day, and has been developed to respond to the emergence of highly contagious COVID-19 variants, including the Delta variant.
«We’re proud of San Francisco’s leadership in combatting this pandemic, from calling for an early shutdown to instituting mandatory vaccination policies. We’re also proud of the LGBTQ community’s strong role in combatting the COVID pandemic, including our extraordinarily high rates of vaccination», said GLBT Historical Society Executive Director Terry Beswick. «LGBTQ people have not forgotten the hard lessons of the AIDS pandemic, and that is why we are among the first museums and archives to institute a mandatory vaccination policy in San Francisco, because prevention is our best weapon»
The society operates the GLBT Historical Society Museum in the Castro district and its Dr. John P. De Cecco Archives and Research Center in the Mid-Market district. All visitors to the museum and archives, including children over 12, will need to show proof of full vaccination completed at least two weeks prior to their visit. Unvaccinated visitors will not be permitted in the museum or archives. This requirement does not apply to individuals ineligible for vaccinations, including children under 12 years old and those with documented medical exemptions. All visitors, including children two years and older, must still comply with the indoor masking requirement.
The society is accepting identical forms of vaccination proof as those accepted by the city, including an original, copy or picture of a CDC vaccination card; vaccination documentation from a healthcare provider; or personal digital COVID-19 vaccine records issued by the State of California, other U.S. states or an approved private company. Full details of the policy are available on the society’s website at www.glbthistory.org/covid-19-information.
