
Two teens charged with assault over alleged gay «hate crime» in Sydney CBD
Two teenage boys have been charged with assault over what police allege were «hate-related crimes» carried out in the Sydney CBD.
In one of the alleged incidents, a black Volkswagen Golf carrying four people pulled up alongside a 19-year-old man and two women – aged 20 and 21 – were walking along Castlereagh Street, Haymarket about 8.50pm on February 6, according to 9News.
One of the occupants allegedly threatened the man, who a police spokesman said the alleged attacker believed to be gay, before another got out and punched him in the head, knocking him to the ground.
The 20-year-old woman allegedly had an egg thrown at her when she tried to intervene, before the injured man was kicked on the ground 9News reports.
