«There is so much history in this pub and it belongs to the gay community».

The owner of Nottingham‘s oldest gay bar has announced she will be selling up and heading into retirement after more than 20 years at the venue. Debbie Law confirmed she was moving away from the New Foresters as pain she was suffering from fibromyalgia was ‘starting to get worse’, Nottinghamshire Live reports.

Members of the LGBTQ+ community expressed their sadness at the decision to sell the business and some have raised concerns over whether the Huntingdon Street bar will remain a ‘safe space’.

Speaking to Nottinghamshire Live, Debbie said she was keen to see the bar remain a gay venue as many such spaces have closed in recent years.
