Brian Falduto, a queer country artist, are releasing his debut album «Gay Country» this week
After gaining international attention for his performance in the massive cult classic «School of Rock» as «Fancy Pants», critically acclaimed indie musician Brian Falduto has transformed into the bonafide country star he always wanted to be.
On March 10, Falduto will release his debut album «Gay Country», an 8-track LP honouring the classic 90s/early 2000s sounds of country music that have long been missing. Gay Country, co-written by Falduto and recorded in Nashville, is an anthemic, playful, and heartfelt album that further establishes Falduto as a queer country artist worthy of your attention.
The viral lead single «Same Old Country Love Song» received TikTok love from «School of Rock» co-star Jack Black (1.3 million views) and influencer Tate Hoskins (1.5M views). Brian pays tribute to his favorite country stars, including Dolly Parton, Faith Hill, Carrie Underwood, Shania Twain, Rascal Flatts, The Chicks, and others, throughout the album. He describes the album concept as a return to the past—to a sound we used to know and love—but with a gay twist.
«Country music has always been my heart and soul, ever since I was a little kid», Brian says. I’m very proud of what I’ve accomplished here. I’m loving all of the new and exciting sounds out there right now, especially a lot of what’s coming from emerging queer artists who are pushing the envelope.
But for this project, I wanted to go back to the classic 90’s / early 2000’s vibe that «little me» used to bop around to but couldn’t quite picture himself in. I’ve always wondered what it would have been like if, in the midst of the latest Tim McGraw and Jo Dee Messina hits, a song that normalised who I was came on the radio. I hope «Gay Country» brings joy, laughter, and a sense of belonging to those who need it the most. At the very least, it has done so for the little kid inside of me.
Brian established himself as a passionate singer-songwriter and recording artist in 2020 with the release of «God Loves Me Too», a song and music video offering queer youth of faith the love and acceptance he never felt he received growing up gay in church. The song was selected as the Loud & Proud feature on Apple Country’s Proud Radio, won «Fan Favorite» at The 2020 International Independent Music Video Awards, and received support from The Trevor Project, GLAAD, Beloved Arise, and other LGBTQIA+ organisations.
