Following a vote by its management committee, cycling’s world governing organisation declared on Friday that female transgender cyclists will no longer be permitted to compete in women’s events on the UCI schedule as of Monday.

Under new rules that go into effect on Monday, the UCI, the world’s governing body of cycling, will exclude female transgender riders who transitioned after male puberty from competing in women’s events on its calendar.

Currently allowable plasma testosterone levels for transsexual women are 2.5 nanomoles per litre, which allows them to compete in the female division, reports.
