The India Supreme Court decides against allowing same-sex marriage
Millions of LGBTQ+ people seeking marriage equality have had their hopes dashed as the Supreme Court of India decided not to legalise same-sex unions.
Instead, the government’s offer to form a group to examine expanding same-sex couples’ legal rights and benefits was accepted by the court.
Same-sex couples and activists expressed their disappointment at the ruling and vowed to carry on with their battle.
21 petitions from campaigners and same-sex couples were being considered by the court, rnz.co.nz reports.
