The sequel will take audiences on another unforgettable journey, partly set in Australia but also venturing overseas. Just like the first film, the story will revolve around the adventures of drag queens Tick/Mitzi Del Bra (played by Hugo Weaving), Adam/Felicia Jollygoodfellow (played by Guy Pearce), and Bernadette Bassenger (played by Terence Stamp).

Stephan Elliott shared that it took him five years to write the script for the sequel. However, it was the passing of his father in 2020 and his mother in 2023 that compelled him to focus and complete the project. Despite the personal challenges he faced, Elliott emphasised that the sequel would not be a somber tale. On the contrary, he promised that it would be a grand and extravagant story that would give even the legendary RuPaul a run for her money.
Elliott expressed his desire to create something unique and meaningful, stating to the Guardian, «I don’t want to repeat myself, so it’s taken me a long while to come up with something, to realise that there’s something that needs to be said about tolerance».
