Introduction: A Survivor’s Journey

Radka Trokšiarová’s life changed dramatically almost two years ago when she was seriously wounded during the tragic shooting at the Tepláreň LGBTQ venue on Zámocká Street in Bratislava, Slovakia. The attack left her and many others in the LGBTQ+ community feeling vulnerable and threatened. While politicians quickly addressed their security, Radka noticed a glaring omission: almost no one asked her if she felt safe.

Gaining Strength Through Advocacy

Despite the traumatic experience, Radka has emerged from the ordeal feeling «more confident and stronger». She attributes much of her newfound strength to her collaboration with the municipal police. This partnership has allowed her to transform her pain into a powerful tool for change, focusing on improving the relationship between the police and the LGBTQ+ community.

Training the Next Generation

Recently, Radka played a pivotal role in training 18 police cadets. Her sessions emphasized the importance of treating LGBTQ+ individuals with respect and sensitivity. The goal is to ensure that members of this community feel safe and confident in seeking police assistance when needed. By sharing her personal experiences and insights, Radka hopes to foster a culture of understanding and protection within law enforcement.

Looking Ahead

Radka Trokšiarová’s dedication to advocacy serves as an inspiring example of resilience and empowerment. Her work not only aids in healing the wounds inflicted by the attack but also paves the way for a safer, more inclusive future. As police officers better understand and respect the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ community, the foundation is laid for a more supportive and secure environment for all.
