Democrats Endorse Solomon for Woolsey Seat
Progressive Democrats of America has just announced its first endorsement of the 2012 election season: Norman Solomon for Congress in California's Second Congressional District, which runs from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Oregon border. Solomon has served as co-chair of PDA's Healthcare NOT Warfare campaign for the last four years.
PDA national director Tim Carpenter said, “Norman has shown us what kind of elected official he will be: an intrepid leader with progressive principles leading the way toward a United States committed to jobs, healthcare, justice and an end to perpetual war.”
PDA members are volunteering for and raising funds for Solomon’s campaign, which has committed to not accepting a single dollar from any corporate PAC. Despite this handicap, Solomon for Congress has raised over $200,000 already.
Solomon explained his fundraising strategy: “The large corporations giving big bucks to candidates are not engaged in philanthropy–they’re buying influence. Candidates for Congress routinely take money from Wall Street and say it’s necessary. I say it’s undermining democracy, and I don’t want any part of it.”
