New York city to host conference for LGBT law enforcement and criminal justice professionals
This June, the Gay Officers Action League (GOAL) and the John Jay Pride Association will host a Conference for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender law enforcement and criminal justice professionals. The Conference is from June 24 to June 28, 2009 during Gay Pride Week, at the John Jay College of Criminal Justice and the NYPD Police Academy.
The Conference offers courses in policing skills, such as crime scene analysis, gang investigations, and hostage negotiation. The Williams Institute on Sexual Orientation Law at UCLA School of Law and the NYC Anti-Violence Project will present courses on workplace discrimination, legal protections of same-sex couples, and personal safety. The National September 11 Memorial & Museum will present on forward thinking for Ground Zero and the Queens DA’s Office will present on DNA. The Conference leads up to GOAL’s annual awards dinner. The Conference ends with the Heritage of Pride Gay Pride March down Fifth Avenue, marking the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots. A reunion of the veterans of Stonewall Riots and the officers who responded that evening is planned for a panel discussion.
