H.R.H. Crown Prince Haakon Magnus visits Norwegian LGBTQ Muslim community
It is very nice to meet people who are fighting for love, says Crown Prince Haakon.
Salam, salaam, is Arabic and means peace, well-being. Salam is also the name of the voluntary organisation that Thee Yezen Al-Obaide founded in 2017 to promote an inclusive and safe environment for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender people, and / or other non-gender norms with a Muslim background in Norway. Salam works to provide safe spaces for freedom of expression, tolerance, inclusion, belonging and friendship. Salam is a feminist and anti-racist organisation – according to the Norwegian LGBTQ magazine Blikk.
On the way out from the Salam visit, H.R.H. Crown Prince gave the Norwegian press the following statement :
«I think it is important that we are different and can live together in a good way. The work that is being done in Salam is of great importance to just this, and I think that is an important part of the liberal democracy we have».
