Cruz, a longtime opponent of LGBTQ rights in the U.S, claimed in a Twitter post that the death penalty for homosexuality was an excessive measure.

Ted Cruz wrote, «This Uganda law is abhorrent and incorrect». «Any rule that makes homosexuality a crime or imposes the death sentence for ‘aggravated homosexuality’ is revolting and abhorrent. ALL civilised nations ought to band together to denounce this violation of human rights».

Some of Cruz’s supporters praised the senator for his position, but others criticised him for speaking out against the law, rawstory.com reports.
