Global Conference on LGBT Human Rights
The U.S. Department of State and USAID will host the third Conference to Advance the Human Rights of and Promote Inclusive Development for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender (LGBT) Persons on November 12-14, in Washington, D.C. Leading U.S. government officials will speak at the event, including Counselor to the Secretary of State, Tom Shannon, and USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah.

The United Nations human rights office today called on the Kyrgyz Parliament to refrain from passing draft legislation that would discriminate against people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender (LGBT) people.

Chad: President Must Scrap Homophobic Bill
The President of Chad, Idriss Deby, has been directly warned that if a homophobic bill currently before parliament is passed, he will be showing a blatant disregard for the country’s human rights obligations. In an open letter published today, Amnesty International’s Secretary General, Salil Shetty, calls on the President to scrap the bill which threatens to impose jail sentences of up to 20 years and heavy fines for people “found guilty” of same sex activity.

New Zealand : Commission condemns violent attack on Gay Wellingtonians
The Human Rights Commission in New Zealand has condemned a violent attack on staff and patrons at a gay bar in central Wellington last Friday. GayNZ reported that the alleged attackers were abusive and violent when they realised the bar and the people in it were gay.
