CIAA Moves Championships out of North Carolina as Fallout from Anti-LGBTQ HB 2 Law Continues
Last Friday, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), America’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organisation, and Equality NC, the statewide organisation working to secure equal rights and justice for LGBTQ North Carolinians, praised the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) decision to stand up for the safety of the organisation’s employees, players, and fans by moving championship games out of North Carolina due to the state’s anti-LGBTQ HB 2 law. Eight of the CIAA’s 12 member schools are based in North Carolina.
ACC Moves Championship Game to Orlando After McCrory & NC General Assembly Refuse to Repeal HB 2
Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), America’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organisation, and Equality NC, the statewide organisation working to secure equal rights and justice for LGBxTQ North Carolinians, responded to the decision by the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) to move the league’s 2016 football championship game to Orlando, Florida, due to North Carolina’s deeply discriminatory HB 2 law.

Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), America’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organisation, and Equality NC, the statewide organisation working to secure equal rights and justice for LGBTQ North Carolinians, rejected calls for Charlotte’s City Council to rescind a non-discrimination ordinance before any consideration is made of changes to HB 2, the vile law that has written anti-transgender discrimination into law and prevented local communities from passing their own LGBTQ non-discrimination measures.
