The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), America’s lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organisation, today announced that progressive Christian magazine Sojourners will publish a full-page ad in its September/October issue highlighting the disproportionate rates of homelessness facing LGBT youth.
Cuomo Budget Proposal Would Eliminate 34% of Shelter Beds for Homeless Youth in NYC; Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender Youth Disproportionately Harmed
According to an analysis by the New York City Department of Youth and Community Development, Governor Cuomo’s proposed budget would drastically reduce support from New York State for homeless youth, with 37 shelter beds for youth facing closure. Currently New York State and New York City combine funds to support 108 youth shelter beds, even though a recent census indicated that over 3,000 youth are without shelter every night.
