GLAAD Returns to Neutral Stance on AT&T/T-Mobile Merger
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) today submitted a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to withdraw its support for the pending AT&T merger with T-Mobile and to return the organization to a neutral position with respect to the deal. GLAAD also submitted to the FCC, in the same letter, a statement strongly supporting the tenets of net neutrality. Today’s letter was filed by Mike Thompson, GLAAD’s Acting President following extensive discussion among GLAAD leadership and supporters.
AT&T, Time Warner Cable Pull Advertising from ‘José Luis Sin Censura’
The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) and the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) today announced that AT&T and Time Warner Cable have withdrawn advertising from “José Luis Sin Censura.” It was also announced that WSVN-TV in Miami, Florida and KCTU-TV in Wichita, Kansas are the first two affiliates to pull the show from airwaves.
LBGT Groups Urge Orbitz to Pull Ads from Fox News Over Anti-Gay Rhetoric
Media Matters kicked off its DropFox campaign 16th, May, 2011, by urging Orbitz (OWW), an online travel site, to pull its ads from the anti-LBGT Fox News network. Three high-profile gay rights organizations—GLAAD, Courage Campaign and Equality Matters—signed the letter to Orbitz CEO Barney Harford asking that the company no longer support Fox News through ad revenue.
