EU Parliament demands action on LGBTI rights in Western Balkans
Yesterday, the European Parliament adopted three of its annual reports for candidate and potential candidate EU countries. In those reports MEPs have assessed the rights of LGBTI people in Macedonia, Serbia and Kosovo, and recommended the countries to improve the situation.

Earlier this month, the European Commission’s published its annual progress reports on accession states’ progress towards EU Membership. The reports include important and extensive information on the situation of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people in those 7 countries.
Parliament human rights report addresses LGBTI criminalisation, trans rights and same-sex unions
Last week, the European Parliament voted its annual report on human rights in the world. The report takes account of the situation of human rights, including of LGBTI people, and makes recommendations accordingly. The report contains strong language on the rights of LGBTI people.

FYR Macedonia bans same-sex marriage and creates constitutional obstacle future civil unions
In a vote yesterday, the Parliament of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) constitutionally defined marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Furthermore, it created a constitutional hurdle to possible future Macedonian flaglegislation on same-sex civil unions.
