Barbados’ recognition of same-sex unions welcomed but incomplete
The Eastern Caribbean Alliance for Diversity and Equality Inc. (ECADE) and its member organisations in Barbados, welcome the pronouncement that the government of Barbados is prepared to recognise civil unions for couples of the same gender. We note however that while progressive, this does not address the main legal barrier for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer Barbadians.

Last week, the European Parliament voted its annual report on human rights in the world. The report takes account of the situation of human rights, including of LGBTI people, and makes recommendations accordingly. The report contains strong language on the rights of LGBTI people.
Backroom deal rules out same-sex unions in Slovak constitution
Today, Slovak MPs from SMER (Social-Democrats) and KDH (Christian-Democrats) voted to define marriage as a ‘unique bond between a man and a woman’ in the Constitution. Ruling party SMER agreed to the demand of opposition party KDH in exchange of their support for a judicial reform.
