This is an international day of commemoration that memoralises the lives lost in the course of the year due to transphobia and it also raises awareness of the violence trans people can face simply because they are trans. The Trans Day of Remembrance began in 1998 in the United States in response to the murder of Rita Hester, a trans woman.
