TLDEF Files Federal Lawsuit Against Walmart for Workplace Discrimination
Transgender Legal Defense and Education Fund has filed a federal lawsuit against Sam’s East, Inc. and Wal-Mart Associates, Inc. on behalf of a transgender woman who faced workplace discrimination at a Sam’s Club store in Kannapolis, North Carolina. Sam’s Club is a membership-only retail warehouse chain owned by Sam’s East, Inc., a subsidiary of Walmart.
Wal-Mart sued over denying health insurance to gay worker’s wife
A Wal-Mart Stores Inc employee sued the retailer on Tuesday, saying its prior policy of denying health insurance benefits to the spouses of gay employees violated gender discrimination laws.
HRC Applauds Wal-Mart for Adding Gender Identity Non-Discrimination Protections
The Human Rights Campaign – the America’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organisation – last Wednesday praised Wal-Mart, the nation’s largest private employer, for adding gender identity and expression to its employment non-discrimination policy. The company’s nondiscrimination policy already included sexual orientation.
