Equality Virginia and HRC Ask State Board of Social Services to Reject Commissioner’s Recommendation and Approve Rules Prohibiting Discrimination
Equality Virginia and the Human Rights Campaign today called on the Virginia State Board of Social Services to reject recommended amendments proposed in a memo from the Commissioner of the Department of Social Services dated April 20, 2011 [sic] and earlier advice from the Attorney General and approve publication and implementation of rules governing licensed child placing agencies that include a provision barring discrimination based on sexual orientation against prospective adoptive and foster parents.
HRC Lauds Introduction of Uniting American Families Act
The Human Rights Campaign, the America’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organisation, today lauded the introduction of the Uniting American Families Act (UAFA) in the U.S. House of Representatives. The bill, sponsored by Representative Jerry Nadler (D-NY), would allow U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents in same-sex relationships to sponsor their partners for immigration purposes.

Arkansas High Court Puts Best Interest of Children First
The Human Rights Campaign, the America’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organisation, today hailed the Arkansas Supreme Court’s decision upholding a lower court ruling that a law prohibiting adoption by unmarried couples who live together violates the Arkansas Constitution. On Nov. 4, 2008, Arkansas voters approved a statutory ban on adoption and foster parenting by unmarried individuals cohabiting with a sexual partner.
HRC Calls on Gov. McDonnell to Support Virginia’s Children in Full-Page Ad
The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) – the America’s largest civil rights organisation dedicated to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality – will call on Governor Bob McDonnell, in a full-page adin tomorrow’s Richmond Times-Dispatch, to support regulations proposed by former Governor Tim Kaine that would prevent child welfare agencies from discriminating on the basis of sexual orientation, marital status, or religion in the adoption process.
