ESF releases letter to Mormon Church regarding kiss-in
The Empowering Spirits Foundation (ESF), a U.S national lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organisation, made public the letter sent by the ESF to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) at the request of various media outlets. The letter, sent July 20th, announces the Love Unites Kiss-In, to be held at the San Diego Mormon Temple in an attempt by the ESF to meet with LDS church leaders in an effort to engage in respectful dialogue regarding LGBT issues.
The Love Unites Kiss-In follows the recent arrest of Matt Aune and Derek Jones. The gay couple was arrested by LDS security guards when they exchanged a kiss on Main Street Plaza in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The letter to Thomas S. Monson, President of the LDS Church, can be found at www.empoweringspirits.org/PRDocServer/LDS_Unity_Rally_072009.pdf.
The ESF hopes that both sides can engage in respectful dialogue and come to see similarities rather than differences.
