This week a Tweet from a cottaging website implied that a man was ready to meet others for a gay romp in the town.
Insp Ian Grout, from the Welwyn Hatfield safer neighbourhood team, said: “We have investigated the Tweet and are satisfied that it is not a specific invitation or arrangement by an individual to commit an offence.
“We have not had any complaints about this kind of activity recently in WGC but any reports would be fully investigated.”
Welwyn Hatfield Council said it believed the sordid Tweet referred to toilets that had now closed, but admitted amorous adults did use the cubicles for sex.
