The owner of a hairdressing salon threatened to employ only “fat, gay and lesbian” staff because he was sick of his women stylists becoming pregnant, a tribunal heard.

Former employee Kirsty Diver said boss Andrew Rodgers complained that she had taken too much time off work to care for her newborn baby.

Kirsty, 32, who went into labour early after being involved in a car crash, told an employment tribunal: “He later stated that in future he will be employing only fat, gay and lesbian members of staff as no one would want to have a baby with a fat person and gays and lesbians would not need maternity or paternity leave.’’

Mr Rodgers, 34, is accused of sexist bullying at his Funky Divas beauty parlours.
