Football clubs are worried about damaging their reputation and the marketability of players if a player comes out as homosexual, said the niece of the late gay footballer Justin Fashanu.
Speaking exclusively to SportsDirect News, Amal Fashanu, the daughter of ex-Wimbledon and Aston Villa striker, John, said because of the amount of money involved in football, there is added pressure on gay players when deciding whether or not they should admit to their sexuality.
“We’ve made very little, if any, progress since Justin died,” she said of her uncle who took his own life 15-years-ago this month.
