Why Mia Freedman didn’t offend me

Journalist and commentator Mia Freedman has come under fire for comparing gays to paedophiles on an Australian news program.

Mia Freedman was on Channel Ten’s The Project on Thursday night when she made the comment which has caused uproar in the gay and lesbian community.

While talking about the idea of a national paedophile register, the founder of online news website Mamamia said: ‘We accept that gay people can’t change who they love and they’re sexually attracted to, so why do we think that people who are sexually attracted to children can be rehabilitated?

Did she offend me ? No she didn’t. She said that how can we as society say that paedophiles can change their attraction to children (in plain text – Once a paedophile always paedophile), but we have concluded that attraction to same-sex can’t be changed. She didn’t say that paedophiles and gays was the same. She used gays as an perfect example how stupid it is to believe that paedophiles can change their attraction to children – that paedophiles will always be a predator for children and children need to be protected against these predators.
