Australian Liberal MP pushes for vote on same-sex marriage

Liberal MP Warren Entsch has asked the prime minister to introduce legislation to allow same-sex marriage and use a plebiscite to ratify any changes.

A parliamentary vote on whether to allow same-sex marriage could be held before the next election under a radical plan proposed by Liberal MP Warren Entsch.

Mr Entsch is urging Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to introduce legislation to amend the Marriage Act, but leave it to a plebiscite to ratify any changes.

“I have said to him that I think we need to be looking at progressing this issue,” he told ABC radio on Thursday.
