The 17 year old young man who stood accused of, among other things, murder and hate crime against a 54 year old man in Gothenburg, Sweden, received his sentence last Wednesday.

Gothenburg District Court sentenced the man for larceny and murder, the penalty is four years’ youth custody and then expulsion for life from Sweden (expulsion part indicates that the young man is not a Swedish citizen).

The young man is sentenced not for hate crime as prosecutor urged. The court does not believe that there is enough evidence to prove the hate crime motive.

17-year-old has filmed while he was shouting homophobic slurs over the 54-year-old’s dead body, but the court does not consider this sufficient as evidence of a hate crime, the Swedish LGBT website QX.se reports.

The 54-year-old man was found dead at the end of June last year in his own apartment. He was tied behind his back and had a dead snake laid around his neck, Swedish newspaper GP.se reports.
