The head of the FA said the organisation was determined to stamp out homophobia and would come down hard on fans who hurl anti-gay abuse

Gay footballers would still face “significant abuse” if they came out, the head of the Football Association admitted.

Greg Clarke said he was “ashamed” that homophobic abuse was still an issue at grounds.

He said the FA was determined to stamp out homophobia and would come down on fans who hurled anti-gay insults “with a ton of bricks.”
