TV 2 in Norway pink washing straight «Love Island»
Daniel Bratterud was asked if he possibly wanted to join the Norwegian edition of «Love Island», that was before they knew his sexual orientation.
He was contacted by the casting team from TV 2, and was enthusiastically asked if he could not go down. “I think you look very nice, have to meet you next week to see what personality you have and whether you are interested,” the message from the channel to Daniel Bratterud (30) said to Norwegian newspaper Dagbladet.
The 30-year-old became curious and wrote several messages back and forth to the TV casting team. However, the conversation ended abruptly when he told them he was gay.
«No, that doesn’t work. But do you know if a straight, single guy around 26-30 years who is handsome, has the radiance, personality and playful enough to be able to join [something like that]?», the casting wrote to Daniel.
There is one thing if I had applied to the tv-shwow, knowing that they only wanted heterosexual men and women. But I was approached by the casting of the show. And when they even write me off because I’m gay, I know it’s boiling, he says to Dagbladet.
The only gay in the Norwegian edition of «Love Island» are the host Morten Hegseth, who is a known gay activist in Norway – but he is very quiet regarding TV 2’s handling gay persons in the tv-show.
The TV channel argues they are very open minded, we have a gay host and we had a bisexual participant too – the reason wasn’t the side of the participant that they can like someone of the same-sex, but they liked someone of the opposite sex too. This sound more like a pink wash than a openminded TV Channel.
TV 2 Norway receives up to 135 million Norwegian Kroner from the Norwegian government annually.
