Having moved to Paris for university, Leevi returns home to Finland for the summer to help his estranged father renovate the family lake house.
Tareq, a Syrian refugee, has been hired to help with the work. When Leevi’s father has to return to town on business, the two young men establish a connection and spend a few days discovering one another in the heat of the Finnish midsummer.
Writer and director Mikko Makela‘s stunning debut is among the very first queer films made in Finland. Viewing the country from both the perspectives of an immigrant and an emigrant, this acclaimed romantic drama casts the long-marginalised voices of sexual and ethnic minorities centre-stage in a timely story about the search for freedom, acceptance and a place to call home.
