The crime of «indecent acts between males» was abolished from the Crimes Act in the Cook Islands yesterday night, decriminalising homosexuality.

Previously, the statute carried a maximum five-year prison sentence for homosexual men. Those who permitted «indecent acts between males» on their property ran the danger of up to ten years in prison.

The Pacific nation, however, never put either law into effect, qnews.com.au reports.
