«Unity, solidarity, strength, and courage» are needed to promote the rights of transgender persons, according to the former first minister of Scotland.

At the Rainbow Honours Awards ceremony last night in London’s Natural History Museum, Nicola Sturgeon made a stirring address.

First and foremost, progress towards equality is not a straight line; it has both forward and backward motion, and now is the time to be steadfast in ensuring that it moves forward.

First and foremost, we must act collectively in order to accomplish this. Never, ever, ever must we give in to attempts to divide and conquer. I feel as though I have said this till I am blue in the face in Scotland.

We’ll see if it works out in the end, but I won’t ever stop repeating it. The expansion of transgender people’s rights does not in any way lessen my rights as a woman. Let no one ever, ever, ever tell you otherwise, metro.co.uk reports.
