LGBTQ activist calls Target’s use of «rainbow capitalism» a «huge betrayal»
Target's response to the issue surrounding its Pride month line, according to an LGBTQ advocate, was a «huge betrayal» of the queer community.
After Target scaled back its pride month collection in response to public uproar, an LGBTQ advocate and mother of a member of the LGBTQ community criticised Target for its «rainbow capitalism».
According to Heather Hester of Fox Digital according to Daily Mail, Target’s response demonstrated that the company was “in this just for the money” and that its current behaviour represents a «huge betrayal» of the LGBTQ community.
«Rainbow capitalism», according to Hester, is essentially the practise of peddling Pride-related goods for financial gain without necessarily supporting the neighbourhood. That’s what took place, correct? There are many factors that contribute to that, but in the end, that is what happened.
