St Ursula’s College Kingsgrove in Sydney has recently reconsidered its position regarding same-sex formal dates, following a petition initiated by a student that has gained significant support through the collection of thousands of signatures.
A Sydney-based Catholic school exclusively for girls has recently rescinded its prohibition on same-sex couples attending its year 12 formal event, following extensive public disapproval.
Abbie Frankland, a final year student at St Ursula’s College Kingsgrove, initiated a change.org petition last week after learning that the school had imposed a condition whereby she could only bring a male partner to the event.
The petition, which strongly criticised the school’s policy as being discriminatory, amassed nearly 5,000 signatures before it was officially concluded, SBS.com reports.
