Greece is the first Orthodox Christian country to legalise same-sex marriage
Greece has made history by becoming the very first Orthodox Christian nation to legalise same-sex marriage, a decision that was made despite strong opposition from the powerful and socially conservative Greek Church. This groundbreaking move marks a significant step forward in the country's progress towards equality and acceptance for all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation.
A vast majority of 176 legislators from different political parties in the 300-member parliament cast their votes in support of the significant bill put forward by the center-right government of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the late hours of Thursday.
On the other hand, 76 lawmakers opposed the reform, two chose to abstain from voting, and 46 were absent from the parliamentary session, 9news.com.au reports.
