Man Jailed for Vicious Homophobic Attack in Brixton

A man has been sentenced to 12 months in prison following a diligent investigation by Metropolitan Police officers after two men were assaulted in an unprovoked homophobic attack in Brixton. The hard work of the officers to gather evidence has resulted in the conviction of Jabbard Mabounda, a 31-year-old resident of Crosby Walk, SW2.

The attack took place on Brixton Road, SW9, on the 19th of August last year. Both victims, who had attended a Black Pride event, were waiting for a bus when they were viciously assaulted. The injuries sustained by the victims required hospital treatment.

Justice Served

Jabbard Mabounda was identified as the perpetrator of the attack through the use of CCTV footage. He was subsequently arrested and charged. On Monday, the 22nd of April, Mabounda appeared before the Inner London Crown Court, where he was sentenced to 12 months in prison.

The successful conviction is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the investigating officers. Detective Inspector Pete Thompson from Brixton, the lead investigator on the case, described the attack as “vicious” and emphasised the importance of bringing perpetrators of hate crimes to justice.

He commended the bravery of the victims throughout the investigation and expressed his pride in the high standards demonstrated by the officers involved. Thompson also highlighted the commitment of the Metropolitan Police to tackle hate crimes, stating that homophobia has no place in society and will not be tolerated in any form.
