Family Equality Council Launches “Allies for Adoption” Campaign
Family Equality Council has announced its 2014 “Allies for Adoption” Campaign to coincide with National Adoption Month in November. The initiative will draw attention to the obstacles LGBTQ people confront when trying to secure legal ties for their families. In the majority of states across the country, LGBTQ people encounter barriers when trying to adopt a partner’s child, jointly adopt through a private agency or when attempting to serve as foster or adoptive parents to youth in care.
Family Equality Council Condemns Federal Bill That Would Create Adoption Discrimination
Family Equality Council today denounced a federal bill introduced last week in Congress that would permit providers of adoption and foster care services to refuse to work with families with whom they have personal, religious, or moral objections. The legislation is spearheaded by anti-LGBT groups the Family Research Council and the Heritage Foundation, and threatens to undo the progress made on behalf of LGBTQ families over the last several years and harm some of our most vulnerable children.
