Following the naming of transsexual Öykü Özen as a candidate nominee from the main opposition, another transsexual has applied to run for Parliament from the ruling Justice and Development Party, or AKP.
“The votes of gay people are enough for me. There are 10 million gay people in Turkey, most of whom are hidden. We should also be represented in Parliament. Therefore, I saw the CHP as suitable. I believe the leader of the CHP, Kemal Kılıçadaroğlu, is sincere,” Özen said to Hurriyet Daily News.
