Gaytravel.com Announces Deadline to Apply for Next “Guru”
gaytravel.com, the #1 ranked LGBT travel site, announces the deadline for applications to be the next Gay Travel Guru.
No more applications will be accepted for Season Two, after Friday, Sept. 21.
In 2011, the first Gay Travel Guru, Nick Vivion, spent six months traveling all over North America in search of the ultimate gay and gay-friendly travel destinations, and shared each of his experiences with avid followers through blog posts, tweets and vlogs, sponsored and hosted by gaytravel.com and its website.
The search for the next individual to hold the coveted title has been on since June, when preregistration began and gaytravel.com announced its partnership with Grindr for Season Two, during San Diego’s annual FilmOut film festival. This new marketing strategy proved itself quickly, as the number of applications for Season Two surpassed the total number for Season One, the very first week.
Since June, Gay Travel Guru launch parties have taken place in Las Vegas, San Francisco and San Diego, and garnering thousands of eager applicants to date. Season One finalist, J. Son Disant of nakedboynews.com hosted two of the three events.
Applicants will be narrowed down through a four-round elimination process and a travel related finale. Those continuing on through each round will do so by successfully completing specified tasks.
September 21 marks the deadline for all applications and the end of Round One. A week later, Round Two will begin and all applicants will be required to submit a video of their own creation, explaining, “Why I want to be the next Guru.”
“We are currently interviewing possible CVBs (convention and visitor bureaus) for the Guru’s 2013 travels to make sure the destinations are truly LGBT friendly and offer a variety of activities for gay and lesbian travelers,” said Joey Konecek, gaytravel.com’s community director.
Although Season One’s Guru only travelled around North America, Season Two’s Guru will travel to international destinations, as well, starting in January of 2013. The winner will be paid a $30,000, including all travel expenses. The Gay Travel Guru competition is only open to citizens of the United States.
