
Manchester’s Gay Village joins hands in support of Russia’s LGBT community

More than a thousand people gathered for a same-sex hand holding event in support of lesbian, gay bisexual and transgender people in Russia.
The demonstration in the heart of Manchester’s ‘Gay Village’, was timed to coincide with the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics in Sochi.
Anti-gay laws which prohibit the promotion of homosexuality in the country have been widely condemned ahead of the games which officially began yesterday.
In a show of solidarity with LGBT Russians and competing athletes, an alternative opening ceremony parade featuring LGBT sportsmen and women from across Manchester was staged on Canal Street.
