
Indian LGBT community turns to President Obama
With a curative petition demanding the Indian Supreme Court to revisit its decision not to review a piece of legislation criminalizing homosexuality still pending, the LGBT community is now pinning its hopes on Barack Obama.
It wants to bring the archaic law to the notice of the US president, who’s visiting the country this weekend.
The Obama administration has played a prominent role in advocating gay rights in the US.
A nationwide campaign called #ObamaForQueerIndia is mobilizing support across the country and internationally, with the aim of reading down section 377. Members of the community, who are aware of the colossal task ahead, believe that getting President Obama to look into the issue will be a big push to their struggle.
