Superbia at Manchester Pride offers two scholarships for the sought-after postgraduate programme at the University of Manchester.
Superbia, the arts and culture programme from Manchester Pride, is offering two full scholarships for the second year running for students to attend the Sexuality Summer School at the University of Manchester.
The postgraduate Summer School, held annually in May, has two Superbia-funded places available to the value of £150 each to cover the full Summer School attendance fee. The Masters-level scholarships are available to anyone who lives, works or studies in Greater Manchester, and is aimed at encouraging applications from those who otherwise might not apply.
The five-day event consisting of daytime seminars and workshops for up to 40 registered postgraduates, alongside a range of lunchtime and evening events open to the public, including lectures, discussions, performances and film screenings will this year take place Monday 18th – Friday 22nd May 2020.
The chosen theme for this year is ‘Queering the Archive’, using current feminist and queer debates to explore what constitutes an archive and considering who has historically been excluded or absent from archival content and practices.
Postgraduate students will have the chance to discuss their current research, developing ideas and potential future collaborations with an interdisciplinary group of PhD and Masters students engaged in the study of sexuality.
To apply for the Superbia Scholarship, students must submit approximately 250 words explaining why the Sexuality Summer School 2020 would be a valuable experience for them, what they’ll bring to it and what they would hope to get out of it.
Greg Thorpe, Project Manager, Superbia, said: ‘This is the second year that we have introduced the Sexuality Summer School scholarship after the overwhelming amount of applicants last year, all eager to undertake the scholarship.
«The partnership with the University of Manchester is vital in the success of the programme by allowing us to use their invaluable resources which all contribute to being able to put on the event for the second year and creating an insightful experience for those in attendance.
«Superbia offers a wide range of programmes, with the Sexuality Summer School being just one of them. The programme provides students with the chance to learn about important issues and subjects, which is part of our commitment to delve deeper in the study of sexuality and to encourage education and learning through research.”
The deadline for applications is 5pm on Friday 31st January. The application statement should be sent in the body of an email with the subject header ‘Superbia Scholarship’ and emailed jointly to greg@manchesterpride.com and jackie.stacey@manchester.ac.uk
General registration costs £150 and opens on Monday 17thFebruary 2020, for those not applying for the scholarship.
