Swedish Yasin was placed in a correctional institution in Somalia in order to «change» his sexual orientation
Yasin believed he was traveling to visit his father in Somalia for a holiday, but instead found himself detained in a correctional facility. During an interview with the Swedish investigative television program Uppdrag Granskning, Yasin recounted his experience of being subjected to efforts to change his sexual orientation.
As Yasin’s high school years come to an end, he embarks on a journey to Somalia with his guardian to reunite with his father. Despite informing his friends of his anticipated return in two weeks, a year will pass before he is reunited with his loved ones in Sweden.
In Somalia, Yasin’s father exhibits aggressive behaviour and holds the belief that his son is displaying traits considered too feminine. Yasin, whose given name is different, has been instructed to remain in the country and has been confined to a correctional facility with the purpose of undergoing a transformation.
«Uppfostringsresan» / The upbringing journey are now available on SVT Play at this moment only in Swedish.
Today, Yasin currently resides under a protected identity and maintains a positive outlook for the future.
This account originates from Sweden, however, it would be unwise to assume that such occurrences are exclusive to this locale.
