Star of VH1’s ‘TRANSform Me’ Laverne Cox to join panel on transgender images in film
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD), the nation's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) media advocacy and anti-defamation organization, today released its guide to LGBT inclusive films showing at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and the 2011 Slamdance Film Festival. With over XX film listings, the guides serves as a resource for LGBT filmmakers, audiences and allies who want to support films that highlight the LGBT experience.

“When moviegoers see lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people and characters on film, they come to understand the common ground we all share,” said GLAAD President Jarrett Barrios. “Sundance Institute is a leading force in the film industry and GLAAD is proud to take part as an official Institute Associate of the 2011 Sundance Film Festival, where we will help amplify stories of LGBT people that spark dialogue, raise awareness and increase support of our community.”
Among those films featured in GLAAD’s guide are My Idiot Brother, starring Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks and Zooey Deschanel; Becoming Chaz, the groundbreaking documentary about Chaz Bono’s transition in the public eye; and filmmaker Gregg Araki’s latest work, Kaboom.
GLAAD also announced additional celebrity guests who will lead discussions at three educational panels taking place at the Sundance Film Festival’s Filmmaker Lodge located on the second floor of the Elks Building (550 Main Street) in Park City. Star of VH1’s “TRANSform Me” Laverne Cox will join “Becoming Chaz” directors and founders of World of Wonder Productions Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato at GLAAD’s TRANS-Lucent: The Ongoing Evolution of Transgender Images panel on Tuesday, January 25, from 4pm-5pm.
GLAAD will also host a cocktail reception as a networking opportunity for LGBT filmmakers and allies. ‘Cocktails with cineGLAAD’ will be held at Downstairs (625 Main Street). Attendees will receive a one-year membership to GLAAD and hosted cocktails, courtesy of Bud Light and RÖKK Vodka.
